Why am I Writing?
Historical Romance was a genre I left untouched for most of my life. I thought it was old-fashioned, drab, and unlikely to address topics important to me. Oh how was I wrong. By chance, I gave one book a try, and I was immediately hooked. This genre has so much to offer for readers of all walks of life, and I enjoy it all.
From bluestockings to society ladies, from ballrooms to university halls, grumpy versus sunshine to friends-to-lovers, I cannot stop finding worlds of characters in which I instantly fall in love. I love how historical romance allows me to feel a multitude of emotions, but gives me with that Happily Ever After before I enter back into the real world.
My goal of this blog is twofold. One, I want to spotlight the authors and books that enrich this genre, either those who have built the foundational repertoire and defining the tropes, or those who are expanding this genre provide alternate histories and explore issues relevant to current society.
Second, with degrees in Gender and Women’s Studies and teaching, I used to do a lot of reading and a lot of writing. Over the years as a stay at home mom, I feel like I have lost that scholarly bit of myself. I am looking to reignite that passion and redevelop those skills.
Along the way, I will sprinkle in bits of history and indulge in some Regency and Victorian lifestyle vibes- thus the name Romance Steeped in History. Might as well add some elegance to the journey.
